- Vehicle for Mobility - Advancing Public Passenger Transport in Europe -
VOYAGER is a Thematic Network, funded under the Key Action "Sustainable Mobility and Intermodality" within the European Unions 5th Framework Thematic Programme "Competitive and Sustainable Growth".
VOYAGER will focus on local and regional public transport. It aims to facilitate a fundamental evolution in public transport to meet current and future societal needs for high quality, accessible, frequent, widespread and safe mobility. It is a three year project which started in September 2001.
The real work of VOYAGER will be done within 6 working groups from which each is focussed on one thematic area. The working groups consist of public transport experts (e. g. transport providers, authorities, manufacturers, researcher, etc.)
The six thematic areas are:
Public transport market and customer relations
Public transport infrastructure and rolling stock
Roles and structures of public transport actors
Seamless intermodal network and services
Public transport use and use of ITS
Training and development
The project consists of 5 workpackages. In the frame of the workpackages the research process will follow the following working steps:
Identification of the state of the art of local and regional PT through consolidation of existing research and demonstration results.
Identification and documentation of "good practice" case studies. (to be presented in ELTIS)
Future trends, key challenges and key barriers for implementing competitive and attractive public transport systems at local and regional level.
Development of specific guidelines and policy recommendations for all public transport stakeholders on the needed actions to realise efficient, safe and customer-orientated public transport systems.
Wide dissemination of the key outcomes of the project (e.g. within ELTIS, brochures, leaflets and the promotion at conferences)
